Wales & West Utilities look after the pipes that keep the gas flowing to heat homes, power businesses and keep the lights on across Wales and south west England. It’s their ambition to help communities and the environment thrive by delivering reliable, affordable and sustainable energy long into the future. Collaborating with other Zero2050 partners, Wales & West Utilities will be investigating the impact of decarbonisation on the gas network, participating in the review group and providing data.
Wales & West Utilities is working on three areas of the Zero2050 initiative. The company will use their whole-system 2050 Energy Pathfinder model and take the lead on assessing the impacts of scenarios proposed by the other partners on network flows, decarbonisation, resilience and cost. Wales & West Utilities have also shared their expertise in investigating the different balances needed for electrification and hydrogen to deliver the energy demanded by a net-zero South Wales. Finally, they are heavily involved in assessing the investment required to reinforce the gas network and/or build new pipelines to support hydrogen transmission and distribution.
