The Centre for Integrated Renewable Energy Generation and Supply (CIREGS) within Cardiff University was established as a multidisciplinary engineering research group with international expertise in both energy supply and demand. Their research relies on the development of models for analysis of multi-vector (electricity, heat, transport etc) energy systems and networks. CIREGS have a proven track record in the EU and UK of undertaking projects in the decarbonisation of heat and multi-vector energy systems at different scales - from buildings to local and national levels.
CIREGS are joining the Zero2050 initiative to investigate how the demand for heating and transport in cities will change across a range of net-zero scenarios. The project will develop advance modelling tools based on Machine Learning to investigate the spatio-temporal impacts of decarbonising heat and transport on electricity and gas demand.
